(WXYZ) - Residents of one Detroit neighborhood cheered when the wrecking crew arrived to tear down an abandoned home. But, the cheers quickly diminished when the house came down, and the debris remained.
Jackie Grant is a person who gets things done. But, all her phone calls and countless visits to city hall haven't been enough to get the mess hauled away.
"We are at a standstill." said Grant. "We have been banging our head against the wall with downtown."
The house was one of three in the 4600 block of Three Mile Drive demolished at the time. The other lots were cleared, but two years later, debris still remains on one lot.
"We thought somebody was going to come in and help us get junk out of here, but they left a mess behind." said Harvey Collins.
Residents have been working to improve the neighborhood but say the debris pile is standing in the way.
A spokesperson for the City of Detroit tells Action News a crew will be out next week to clear the lot. We will follow up to make sure they do.
