Detroit (WXYZ) - Six hundred volunteers prepared, packaged, and sent out 6,000 Holiday Meals on Wheels on Thanksgiving morning at the Detroit Agency On Aging and Valley Services.
Many say they didn't even have to sacrifice time with family, because volunteering is part of their families' holiday tradition.
"Just teaching my daughter to give back," said Kelly Patterson.
"We are fortunate to be where we are, so I feel we should give back to the people who aren't," said her 13-year-old daughter Karly Patterson.
The meals delivered to homebound seniors are "Meals On Wheels" in more ways than one. They were made possible in part by a $30,000 donation from Ford Motor Company.
Organizers say volunteers are needed year round. If you are interested contact the Detroit Area Agency on Aging at (313) 446-4444.
