Detroit (WXYZ) - Can a bicycle change a life? One Detroit bike shop will convince you the answer is yes.
Walk into Back Alley Bikes on Cass Avenue on a Saturday, and you will find the shop filled with kids. They are learning how to repair bikes, and they love it.
By working at the non-profit shop on Saturdays kids learn about mechanics, cycling, and how hard work pays off.
When they complete the program, they cycle away with a bicycle of their own.
The program is open to youth ages 10-17. It meets at noon on Saturdays.
Back Alley Bikes is made possible in large-part with funding from its partner retail shop, The Hub of Detroit . 100% of money raised from used bike and part sales go to Back Alley Bikes.
You can learn more about the program at its website.
