DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit City Council has approved a rate hike that is expected to raise water and sewerage bills by almost 9 percent.
That's expected to translate into an average increase of more than $5 a month.
The increase was passed by a vote of 6 to 2. Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry and Councilwoman Mary Sheffield were the dissenting votes.
The rate change is expected to take effect July 1.
