Detroit City Council decides not to file lawsuit over appointment of emergency financial manager

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit City Council has decided not to fight the appointment of an emergency financial manager for the city.

Council had planned to file a lawsuit after a state takeover, but will not go forward with the legal challenge on the advice of lawyers and advisors.

The Detroit City Council made a last-ditch case at a hearing in Lansing earlier this week to stop the takeover-- urging a revised consent agreement that prevented a takeover last year.

Thursday afternoon, Governor Snyder introduced Kevyn Orr as his candidate for EFM . The emergency financial assistance board approved Orr as the EFM for Detroit.

Under a takeover, the mayor and city council would become only "advisors" and their pay would automatically go to zero.
