Detroit City Council set to meet Tuesday after Monday meeting violated Open Meetings Act

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit City Council is set to meet Tuesday after a short meeting called by Mayor Bing was adjourned Monday.

The meeting was cut short because it violated the Open Meetings Act which calls for meeting notices to be publicly displayed. With the building closed for the holiday, the public was unable to see the posted notices inside.

Mayor Bing called the meeting last week after City Council voted down a contract with Miller Canfield. That vote could prevent the city from collection millions from the state - money that is needed to keep the city from going broke by the end of the year.

Additional frustration stemmed from the mayor's absence. Those close to Mayor Bing say he wasn't present because someone in his life is very ill.
