Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr answers questions from 7 Action News staff members

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr met with 7 Action News journalists for an in-depth discussion on Detroit's financial crisis here at Broadcast House.

Our anchors, reporters and staff members were able to ask Orr questions about his first four months as Detroit's Emergency Manager.

Governor Rick Snyder appointed Orr as Detroit's Emergency Manager back in March.

Orr initiated the Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy filing process for the city in July, making Detroit the largest U.S. city to make such a filing.

Detroit's deficit is $18 billion dollars, $11 billion is unsecured including the pensions and retiree health care for 30,000 Detroit City employees and retirees.

Orr is a bankruptcy attorney who resigned from The Jones Day Law Firm to become Emergency Manager.  Governor Rick Snyder had said he does not like the bankruptcy option but it is a tool to get Detroit back on track.
