Detroit Historical Museum extends hours, unveils new features for spring break

Museum will feature new Ukrainian exhibit

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A week off from school does not mean learning should be on hiatus as well.

The Detroit Historical Museum will be extending its hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily starting from Monday, April 1 to Sunday April 7 for families looking to tap into history over the week of spring break. The museum will be closed to the public on Easter Sunday. Admission to the museum is always free.

The Detroit Historical Museum is located at 5401 Woodward Avenue in Midtown Detroit.

New to the museum is an exhibit featuring 1,000 examples of Ukrainian Easter eggs known as pysanky. The eggs will be displayed at the new Community Gallery exhibit from the Ukrainian American Archives and Museum. "A Cultural Thread: The Enduring Ukrainian Spirit" will be displayed through June 16.

The museum says the primary focus of the exhibit is to introduce the viewer to the history of Ukrainian immigration to the United States.

Museum patrons can also look for 20 percent off selected baseball and Detroit Tigers merchandise at the Museum Store the weekend of April 5-7 for Tigers Opening Day.
