Detroit Historical Society celebrating the city's 313th birthday with special events

(WXYZ) - The Detroit Historical Society is putting on a week's worth of events to celebrate Detroit's 313th birthday.

The celebration will run from Monday through Friday, with the Historical Society featuring extended hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The events will include a special film screening each day at 1:00 p.m., as well as family friendly hands-on activities and make-and-take crafts from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

You can find more, including a breakdown of the daily special events on the Detroit Historical Society's website .

The 313th birthday celebration is especially special for the city, as most of it is covered by the 313 area code.

The 313 area code also used to cover all of southeast Michigan. That changed in 1993, when the 810 area code was introduced. Since then, several other area codes have been created to help cover our area.
