DETROIT (AP) - A nonprofit managing the design and construction of a $140 million streetcar line through the heart of Detroit is expanding its leadership team.
M-1 RAIL President and CEO Matt Cullen on Monday announced the hiring of Heather Carmona as chief administrative officer and Sommer N. Woods as director of governmental and community affairs.
Construction on the 3.3-mile streetcar line along Woodward Avenue could begin later this year, with service starting in the fall of 2015.
Carmona served as executive director of the Woodward Avenue Action Association for the last 15 years. She led the efforts to obtain the National Scenic Byway and All-American Road designations for Woodward Avenue and advocated for regional transit.
Woods began M-1 work last fall in a consulting role and now moves to a full-time position.
