DETROIT (WXYZ) - In a media briefing held Thursday morning, Detroit Police Chief James Craig addressed a number of changes that have taken place within the department.
Chief Craig announced restructuring changes that have taken place that includes putting more officers on the streets. Several officers have been assigned from clerical and administrative duties to operational duties.
He also discussed the city's crime numbers stating that the number of homicides and non-fatal shootings are down, but that robberies and larcenies continue to be an issue in the city.
Chief Craig is also pulling in other resources to try and combat violent carjackings. He announced that a task force has been created in partnership with the Michigan State Police and HEAT (Help Eliminate Auto Thefts) to help crack down on carjackings and auto thefts.
