DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Police are investigating the shooting of a 5-year-old girl.
It happened Sunday night as she sat in the back seat of a car in a drive-way on Alcoy Street on Detroit’s East Side.
"I am puzzled as to who would even do that,” said a man wanted to remain anonymous and lives at the house where it happened - a home that is now riddled with bullet holes.
He said a car pulled in the driveway to drop off his 14 -year-old uncle, and, suddenly, someone in another vehicle drove by firing shots. A bullet hit a a little girl named Tamia as she sat in the car in the driveway with relatives.
“I feel sorry for her family,” said the man. “It was a 5-year-old little girl, and I have a little girl myself. And if it was mine, I would be hurt.”
Tamia’s mom wasn’t with her when it happened, but tells 7 Action News the bullet went through her daughter’s neck.
It has been an up and down time as doctors treated her. Right now she is in serious condition in intensive care in the hospital.
Detroit Police are trying to identify the vehicle and determine who might have firing a gun and why.
