Detroit Police officer involved in shooting on Detroit's east side

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A Detroit Police officer was involved in a shooting on Detroit's east side Thursday night.

Michigan State Police are on scene assisting Detroit Police in the investigation. The shooting happened in the 13000 block of Mitchell, near Joseph Campau and the Davison Freeway.

According to police, the suspect was involved in a traffic accident earlier in the day, and pulled a gun on the other person involved.

Police say they noticed the man and matched his description of the same suspect from earlier, and noticed he had a gun in his waistband.

Then, the man took off running into a relative's house and police ran in after him. He then pointed a weapon at the officer.

The officer started shooting at the man, and the man was shot in the hip. He is currently in stable condition at the hospital.
