The Detroit Red Wings will host a canned food drive to assist in the fight against hunger with Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.
The canned food drive will take place during the team's home game on Saturday, Jan. 18, when the Wings take on the Los Angeles Kings at 7:00 p.m. All donations will benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank, which collects and distributes 45 million pounds of food annually to more than 550 local food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.
Volunteers from Gleaners will be at each entrance of Joe Louis Arena when the doors open on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to collect donations.
Founded in 1977, Gleaners is one of the oldest and largest food banks in the country. Headquartered in Detroit, Gleaners operates a total of five distribution centers in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties, which provide food to 558 partner soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and other agencies throughout southeastern Michigan.
