Detroit remembers Nelson Mandela

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Today hundreds of Detroiters came out to the Center For Performing Arts in Downtown Detroit to remember a historic leader who stood up against racism.

One pastor told 7 Action News that "Mandela found ways to protest peacefully. Despite the fact he was locked up in prison Mandela continued to share a message of peace.

"Mandela knew that Detroit needed to hear his message also" said another speaker. Detroiters remember his unbelievable visit to our city and Tiger Stadium being filled with supporters.
