DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit Science Center Closed it's doors in September of 2011.
It was $10 million in debt and forced into foreclosure. At the time it was feared the doors would never re-open, but they will on December 26 under a new name: The Michigan Science Center.
A long list of donors came forth and helped the Michigan Science Center purchase the building, land and exhibits. New additions and renovations are still in the process of being finalized.
General Motors donated at least $1 million. Ford, Chrysler and Nissan helped out as well.
It should be no surprise the automotive industry would step up to help open the Michigan Science Center. The facility aims to inspire the next generation of great minds; quite possibly the very engineers the automotive industry will be looking for.
