DETROIT (WXYZ) - One Detroit school decided to ban cell phones, and it's making some parents suspicious. It's even gotten one student in extreme trouble.
Jamia, 15, said her problems started when she went to school on Thursday. She said school staff were at the entrance collecting cell phones and patting kids down.
According to Jamia, she was instantly afraid and argued with school authorities. She said sometimes things get out of control at school, and she likes to have her phone in case she needs to call someone for help or record what's happening.
7 Action News called the school district for comment, but we were given a statement saying, "The incident has been brought to the attention of the appropriate parities and an investigation into the matter has been initiated."
Jamia was suspended, and her mom is worried five days out of school will hurt her daughter academically.
