DETROIT (AP) - State-appointed emergency manager Kevyn Orr issued an order that strips the pay and authority from City Council President Charles Pugh.
The order takes affect on July 7. The order rescinds Pugh's $76,000 annual salary after he failed to meet a 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline to come back to work or resign.
Pugh has been absent from several Council meetings and had his request for three to four weeks of medical leave denied by Orr. Orr can't fire Council members but does control their pay.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Public Schools says a parent of a recent graduate complained that Pugh gave her teenage son cash and gifts while part of a high school mentoring program.
