DETROIT, Mich (WXYZ) - Governor Rick Snyder issued a statement saying he was pleased to see that the Detroit City Council and the mayor appeared to be on the same page this week with the actions taken, including the firing of the Corporation Counsel Krystal Crittendon and the approval of some review of contracts.
At the same time, he wants the financial review team looking over the city's finances to see if the actions are enough to deal with the short term cash shortage.
He also wants the review team to look at the daunting long term financial problems that he says threaten the viability and future of the city.
"I have a knot in my stomach every morning," says Detroit City Council woman Saunteel Jenkins. She says the decisions that council has to make are sometimes heart wrenching, but, she says, they want the city to survive and thrive on its own financially.
She and others in the city know the end result of the financial review could be a state takeover with an emergency financial manager.
