Greektown Casino-Hotel expanding, creating 200 new jobs

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Greektown Casino-Hotel is moving forward with a $28.6 million upgrade project that will create hundreds of new jobs.

The project includes adding 850 spaces to a new valet parking garage. The casino says it will increase the parking capacity, allowing visitors who self-park to find a space quicker and cut the wait time for people who want to retrieve their cars from the valet garage.

The project also includes plans to add a moving walkway from the new valet garage to the casino that spans Monroe Street.

Greektown Casino has just secured additional financing for the project through Comerica Bank.

The casino also plans to build a new, upscale restaurant on the ground floor. The casino has yet to reveal specifics about the name and size of the restaurant.

"We're looking forward to these projects for a number of reasons, but first and foremost it will allow us to bring new customers to the property and offer more to our regular guests," said Michael Puggi, president and chief executive officer of Greektown Superholdings, Inc.

The upgrade project will create at least 200 new construction jobs.

There will also be positions opening for valet workers, security guards and restaurant staff.

Construction on the new garage is already underway. The entire project should be completed in early 2013.
