A couple of friends are trying to open a restaurant in Detroit and they need your help! It's going to be called "Gather" and will be located  at 1454 Gratiot Ave., across from the Eastern Market.

Kyle and Leah Hunt have always wanted to open up their own restaurant. They picked the named Gather.

Leah Hunt explained, "'Gather' made perfect sense and once it hit, we're like 'oh yeah' as we were thinking of it and it just stuck."

Both worked at Quicken Loans and have business backgrounds but aren't chefs. That's where their friend Nate Vogeli comes in. He'a been a chef for years.

"This is something we all really want to do, we like this," Vogeli said.

They just signed a lease for the space -- what they need now is the money to fill it up.

The three have already invested a huge chunk of the their savings - but it's not enough.

They turn to the crowd-sourcing site Kickstarter to gather $20,000 for Gather.

The restaurant will be across the street from Eastern market and will serve American-comfort food, all cooked on a wood-burning grill!

"It feels like someone who loved it and wanted to make you a nice meal," Vogeli explained. "One item I'm really excited about is going to be our take on buffalo wings.  It will be a whole chicken and we will cut it up the whole thing. It's going to be grilled and tossed into buffalo sauce and finished in an oven. So you will get that fried texture and you will get the gooey knees of the sauce and crisp of the skin and it's going to be a whole chicken so you are not in the processing side of things."

'Gather' will emphasize sustainability.

"Our tables, chairs all the actual decor is from Detroit high schools so we are reclaiming as much as we can," Kyle said.

Leah added, "Having a small business is a great platform for give back and we are excited to be able to be in that position. To give back to the city that we love.  We have a vision for it. We know what we are going to do and we are excited to see what it does in the neighborhood."

They hope to open 'Gather' by late summer or early Fall.
