DETROIT (WXYZ) - Hatch Detroit, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping support retail businesses in the city, has announced the winner of their 2012 Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest.
Elias and Naomi Khalil submitted their retail business plan for La Feria, a Spanish tapas restaurant to be set in Midtown. Their idea was to introduce Detroiters to an authentic Spanish dining experience.
Out of 250 retail business plans submitted, La Feria's plan was selected and awarded the $50,000 grand prize from Comerica Bank along with a combination of other business services.
The restaurant will open in 2013 at 4130 Cass Avenue in Detroit's Cass Corridor.
"The number of businesses that participated and the voting response for this year's competition has been tremendous," said Nick Gorga, co-founder of Hatch Detroit in a news release. "We had strong momentum throughout the competition that started with more than 250 submissions and continued through today's announcement of our winner, La Feria. All of these companies make a significant impact on this region and we've been proud to shine a spotlight on these entrepreneurs."
La Feria is owned by Elias and Naomi Khalil as well as Pilar Baron Hidalgo.
