How you can help protect Detroit from arsonists this Angel's Night

(WXYZ) - The night's leading up to Halloween bring out the arsonists in metro Detroit but thanks to local volunteer groups the numbers of arsons have dropped in recent years.

An estimated 80,000 buildings are abandoned in Detroit, making it a play ground for arsonists.

Saturday night, members from Detroit 300 were out preparing people in neighborhoods across metro Detroit on how to protect their community from arsonists this Angel's Night.

Volunteers went door-to-door asking residents to be observant on the night before Halloween.

"We are out here now passing out flyers to the community and to stores and posting 'Watch House' signs," said Arthur Edge, Detroit resident. He went on to say "It makes a difference when everyone is looking. It's a beautiful city, unfortunately we have blight and we are trying to keep it under control so it doesn't get any worse than it does."
