I-94 accident kills woman, suspect flees on foot

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Michigan State Police say it was just after 2 a.m. Thursday when a car stopped on I-94 near Newport Road in Detroit.  Carlita Young, 22, was driving with a man in the car.

For some reason she made a decision that would cost her her life.  The Detroit woman got out and was hit by a Cadillac Coupe

MSP are investigating why she got parked her car in a lane on I-94 and got out in the dark.  Was she drinking?  Was she arguing with someone? They are working to find out.  The message they want to send to other drivers is don't get out of a car on the expressway unless it is an absolute emergency.

"People just don't realize how fast cars are moving.  Sometimes there isn't a chance to move out of the way," said Lt. Michael Shaw of the Michigan State Police.

Police say the driver who hit Carlita Young may or may not have been at fault for the crash, but still got out of his car and ran.

A short time later a driver in an Oldsmobile Intrigue slowed for the crash and was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Cruze.  For some reason the victim in that crash also got out of his or her car and ran from the scene.

Police are searching for both of those drivers and investigating why they ran.

People who knew and loved Carlita are hoping the drivers give police answers.
