Interim Detroit Police Chief Chester Logan to retire, new chief to be named within 2 weeks

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Sources tell 7 Action News that a new Detroit Police Chief will be named within two weeks.

Interim Chief Chester Logan says he did not apply for the job and he will retire after a transition and 41 years in the Detroit Police Department.

Logan was appointed Interim Chief last October after former Chief Ralph Godbee left the department in a sex scandal.

The process of picking a new chief starts with the Detroit Police Commission then to Mayor Dave Bing and City Council.

This time, the final decision will be made by Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr who has interviewed candidates.
