Former Tigers pitcher Evan Reed charged with 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has announced Criminal Sexual Conduct charges against former Tigers pitcher Evan Reed.

He is facing two counts of CSC in the third degree and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. An arraignment will be scheduled in 36th District Court.

Reed is represented by David Gorcyca and Ben Gonek. The attorneys released the following statement about the charges:

The issuance of charges against Evan Reed considering the evidence in this case is ridiculous. Evan fully cooperated with the police, gave witness statements, and provided other documentation supporting his innocence. Evan will be demanding a speedy trial and is looking forward to his day in court where he will be vindicated of any alleged wrongdoing. When 12 jurors hear the facts of this case, there is no doubt in our minds they will find Evan not guilty of the charged offenses.

Reed was at Motor City Casino in Detroit back in March when he was seen with a young blonde woman on the gaming floor. Video clearly showed the couple playing casino games and mixing among the casino floor crowd.

But later that evening, sources say, the girl appeared drunk and Reed was seen on video with the girl entering a casino hotel room. The next morning, video shows Reed leave first, then the girl.

We're told the girl told a casino worker of the sexual assault, and then casino security called police.

The Tigers' have released the following statement about today's charges:

As an organization we take matters like this very seriously and we are closely monitoring the situation. Evan Reed’s representatives are handling his legal proceeding that must run its course, before there is any further comment from the ballclub.

Reed is expected to turn himself in and be arraigned on the charges in 36th District Court in Detroit at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
