DETROIT (WXYZ) - A Livonia man was arrested by Wayne County Airport Police early Sunday morning after a loaded semi-automatic handgun was detected in the man’s carry-on bag.
TSA officers at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport found the loaded 5.7mm FNH firearm loaded with 20 rounds along with a magazine that had 20 additional rounds stored in it. This particular weapon is especially dangerous for being known to break through bullet-proof vests.
A TSA officer discovered the handgun as the man's carry-on bag went through the conveyor belt of the airport checkpoint. Wayne County Airport Police arrived at the checkpoint, confiscated the firearm and arrested the man.
All passengers are responsible for their luggage and anyone who brings firearms to the airport checkpoint could receive criminal charges up to $11,000. TSA advises travelers to thoroughly check their belongings for banned items.
