Man electrocuted after illegal electrical hook-up on east side

DETROIT (WXYZ) - One person was killed Saturday morning after being electrocuted at a home on Detroit's east side.

The person was killed at a home near the 4800 block of Algonquin near Warren. The family that lives at the home tells us the man tried connecting a line from the electrical pole to the home.

The electrocution came after an illegal electrical hook-up. The family that lives at the home tells us the man tried connecting a line from the electrical pole to the home.

A man that lives nearby tells 7 Action News he heard a crackling sound, then looked out to see a man in a hoodie lying face down on the ground and was on fire.

The homeowner we talked with says she's tried to reach DTE on several occasions and each time they've come out to check the line.

The body is still on the ground smoldering.
