Erica Garner’s family is relieved that justice was served and the person who took her life will spend most of his life behind bars.

Ralph Anthony Marshall II was sentenced today.

Loved ones of 43-year-old Erica Garner gave victim impact statements in the courtroom, saying her life was worth more than a car.

Police say she was shot dead in Detroit back in January while waiting to pick up her son from basketball practice. Marshall, they say, tried to steal her car.

We're told after the shooting he took off, but was later arrested.

Investigators say surveillance video helped get Marshall into custody. He later pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder and today told the judge he’s trying to be better person.

Marshall will now serve a minimum of 25-years and up to 60-years in prison.
