(WXYZ) - Since 2000, the Movement Electronic Music Festival has grown into an international house music phenomenon.
It's 3 days packed with music and activities for folks from across the globe that travel here to Detroit. They spend the weekend downtown in Hart Plaza.
This year the festival is just as big as the first. Businesses downtown are expecting a boost in their bottom line.
"This weekend with the techno fest it's crazy. We're sold out. Tigers as well, Red Wings winning last night can't beat Detroit at this time of the year," Denise Froehlich said. Froehlich works in Sales for the Holiday Inn, Downtown Detroit. While the hotel has their setbacks every year Froehlich says it's the Spring and Summer that bring about big business.
Action News caught up with John Hodges. Hodges traveled to Detroit from London just for the weekend of music, fun and friends. "Detroit is kind of the home of techno so it has a good reputation around the world," Hodges said.
Hart Plaza will serve as the backdrop for one of the country's largest techno move music festivals.
"It's just good music, good people, good sound and yeah it's something a little bit different," Hodges tells Action News.
Amid the fun that people will have to choose from, 5 stages of music and more than a hundred D-J's spinning beats. It's been described as a melting pot of people. It's also a chance for Hodges to see his favorite D-J's, "Moodymann, he's obviously a local. I like Carl Craig. There's a couple of English acts playing like George Fitzgerald which will be good. There's loads everyday it's pretty much all day every day that there's good stuff going on," Hodges said talking about the music festival.
That good stuff that Hodges talked about means good stuff for businesses like the Holiday Inn. "You can never make up for a bed that wasn't sold previously but you can certainly start rolling and bringing in more business selling out pretty much every weekend this summer. It's exciting," Froehlich said.
The cost for a 1-day pass is $49. The cost for a 3-day pass is $99. Both passes will allow you to get in and out as many times as you want. The festival begins Saturday at noon and runs through Midnight Monday.
