Neighbors gather for vigil to remember 71-year-old murder victim

DEARBORN, Mich. - Residents on Detroit's Northwest side gathered on Pinehurst tonight to remember Shirley Reed.

The 71-year old woman was taking out her trash last week, when she was attacked by several young men.

We're told the suspects took Reed into her home, where they beat her and threw her down a flight of stairs.

She later died from her injuries.

7 Action News spoke with family friend, Terri Strickland.  She says, "We are outraged right now.  We want to bring knowledge to the people of Detroit that this type of thing will not be happening in our City."

At this point, police have not made any arrests and the community is calling on the suspects to turn themselves in.

If you know anything about this case, call Detroit Police.
