New residential and retail development announced for along Detroit River

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Economic Development Corporation of the city of Detroit has announced plans to redevelop an area of the Detroit Riverfront.

The real estate development firm of McCormack Baron Salazar plans to spend $55 million dollars on the first phase of the Rivertown development, which will feature a 300-unit residential and retail development complex.

The residential complex will feature low-rise apartments along both Atwater and Riopelle, from the Dequindre Greenway Trail to Riopelle Street.

The complex will be along Atwater St. at the Dequindre Trail, adjacent to the State of Michigan's Outdoor Adventure and Discovery Center, which is currently under construction.

Phase two of the project calls for another 200 units to be built on the vacant property that extends along Atwater, west of Riopelle.

No timetable has been given for when construction will begin.
