Oakland County Sheriff's deputy charged with having intimate relationship with jail inmate

(WXYZ) - An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy is locked up, accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a female inmate at the jail.

Fifty-two-year-old Garry Donnell Jackson has been charged with three counts of 2nd Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. He was arraigned on the charges Monday and given a $5,000 personal bond.

He was also ordered to have no contact with the woman.

Police say an investigation into the relationship began when another inmate came forward to report the intimate relationship.

The Sheriff's Office then began both criminal and internal investigations.

They have determined that the relationship between Jackson and the 24-year-old woman was consensual. However, under state law and department regulations, it is still criminal because an inmate cannot give consent.

The woman has been an inmate at the Oakland County Jail since May 17 on Retail Fraud and Probation Violation charges. She is due to be released November, 5.
