DETROIT (WXYZ) - An off-duty Detroit Police Officer was involved in a shooting Saturday afternoon on Detroit's east side.
Police say it happened at a pharmacy near the 3600 block of Carpenter Street, between Joseph Campau Avenue and Conant Street.
According to police, the off-duty officer was on the phone outside of Conant Plaza Pharmacy when the teen suspect came up to him with a handgun and told him to hand over his phone.
Police say the off-duty officer knocked the gun out of the suspect's hand and ran inside the pharmacy.
The suspect then ran inside after the off-duty officer, and tried to shoot him, but the gun jammed. Then, the off-duty officer grabbed his gun and shot the suspect.
Witnesses at the scene say that even while on the ground bleeding, the teen still tried to shoot the officer.
According to police, the suspect is a teenager, believed to be either 14 or 15 years old, and was taken to the hospital after the shooting in serious condition.
