Packard plant fire burns for hours Sunday

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A fire burned for hours inside the Packard plant Sunday night. When Action News arrived on scene flames could be seen shooting out of a small section of one of the upper floors.

It's not clear what triggered the fire. There were no fire crews on scene when Action News arrived at the plant.

Besides a few onlookers there did not appear to be any injuries.

The plant has been vacant for decades and debate has stirred over whether to demolish the building. Fires are common and the structure is unsafe.
