(WXYZ) - Detroit Police arrived at a condemned apartment building on the city's west side after 7 Action News discovered former tenants were still living in the building.
Sherry Woodberry admits she was staying in her old apartment illegally, but says she was desperate. The apartment building on West Grand Blvd. was found to be unsafe by the City of Detroit following an Action News report.
The place had no running water, no heat and raw sewage filled the hallways. The owner was ordered to make repairs before residents would be allowed to return.
When the building was condemned, tenants were offered temporary housing at area shelters while they looked for other housing arrangements.
Still, some returned to their apartments, saying they were desperate for a roof over their heads. Detroit police officers ordered them to leave because the place still isn't safe.
