Cabbies aren't the only ones at risk. Being a pizza delivery driver can be dangerous profession as well. Jets pizza in Dearborn has decided to stop delivering in Detroit at night after one of their drivers was shot in August. Fortunately he' going to be fine. McQueen was not as lucky.
Around for this morning Detroit police responded to a report of shots being fired at a Mobile gas station at Harper and Connor on the city's eastside. A man who was at the gas station at the time of the attack told 7 Action News what he saw. He asked not to be identified.
"I was coming here to get some gas for my car. I come out and all of a sudden these guys come up and they start shooting. The cab drive shot, they shot, I ducked. "
He goes on to says that when the gunfire stopped, he could see that the cab driver slumped across the front seat. As it stands Jawan McQueen is the second checkered cab driver to be killed in less than a month.
McQueen had a CCW and was armed. That's not always the case though. On September 25th of this year, a cab driver was shot near McNichols and Meyer on Detroit's Westside.
This latest shooting has drivers even more worried. A steady stream of cabbies drove by the scene of Tuesday's visibly disturbed.
Larry Lee, a Checkered driver with nearly 20 years experience knew the victim personally.
