Police search for suspect in robbery of Detroit Family Dollar store

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit police were just about two minutes away from nabbing an armed robber whose greed for other people's money almost landed him in jail.

It happened this afternoon at a family dollar on East Warren near Lakepointe on the city's east side.

Police say the armed robber walked up to a clerk--acting as if he was about to make a purchase, when he showed her his gun and demanded the cash in her register.

But moments after he walked out of the store and got to his van, we're told it appeared he wanted more cash and tried to get back into the store.

Police say the armed robber is described as a black male in his 40s with a medium complexion.

He stood about 5-feet-7-inches with a medium build and a silver goatee.

He was wearing a black doo-rag on his head and wore blue jeans and a navy blue sleeveless t-shirt.

He was seen driving away in a luxury full-size van. It is burgundy and black.
