(WXYZ) - Detroit Police are still searching for two men suspected of shooting and killing a security guard outside of a CVS on the city's west side after he tried to come to the aid of a woman and child being carjacked.
Police say two women and a 6-year-old child pulled into the CVS parking lot in the 16800 block of Schaefer. One of the women entered the store and that's when the two armed suspects approached their vehicle and ordered the other woman and child out of the car.
We're told as the driver was coming out of the store, she noticed the altercation and ran back inside to ask for help. That's when 24-year-old security guard Courtney Meeks went outside and confronted the suspects.
Sources tell 7 Action News Meeks was wearing a bulletproof vest but was shot in the head. Police say he died a short time later at the hospital. We're told he had recently filled out an interest card to join the Detroit Police Academy.
The suspects drove away in the women's burgundy 2002 Ford Taurus after the shooting. Police found the vehicle nearby, but the suspects had already fled.
Police believe the two suspects and an additional suspect were involved in an attempted carjacking prior to the incident at CVS.
The first suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s around 5 foot 6 inches with a slim build, medium complexion, and a scruffy beard. He was last seen wearing a red coat with blue writing on it and a black hat. The second suspect is described as a black man in his 20s around 5 foot 6 inches with a slim build. He was wearing a skull cap, and black and gray winter coat.
The third suspect, wanted in connection with the previous carjacking, is described as a black man around 18 years old with a slim build and medium complexion. He was wearing a dark tan coat with a hoodie.
All three suspects are considered armed.
