Police surround Detroit pharmacy following break-in

(WXYZ) - The Detroit Police Department says two suspects broke into a pharmacy on Vernor and barricaded themselves inside for a short time on Friday morning.

Around 6 a.m., an alarm was set off at the Southwest Discount Pharmacy in the 5800 block of Vernor. When the owner arrived on the scene, he found a window broken and the suspects still inside.

Police say when they got there, one of the suspects was trying to leave out the back door, saw the officers, and then slammed the door shut.

We're told the suspects broke in through an old bank that is attached to the pharmacy and was chipping away at a wall to get in when the alarm went off.

Once police eventually moved into the pharmacy, they found no one inside.

The pharmacy owner tells 7 action news that someone tried breaking into his pharmacy three times overnight on Sunday. The suspect eventually broke in and stole a couple hundred dollars.

He says the pharmacy has been in the area for 10 years, but this is the first time he's dealt with these kinds of incidents.
