DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Mayor Dave Bing joined Michigan Governor Rick Snyder at the D:hive in Detroit as the governor signed a series of bills meant to help Detroit's redevelopment.
Among the bills the governor signed were a bill to help with Eastern Market development and, the bill to set up the Detroit lighting authority.
He also signed a bill creating a regional transit authority for southeast Michigan and a bill that will allow the Downtown Development Authority to utilize government money as part of a $650 million development proposed by the Ilitch organization.
The Ilitch development is expected to include a new hockey arena. Mike Ilitch was also at today's bill signing.
All of the bills were passed during the recent, controversial, lame duck session of the Michigan Legislature.
At least one group protested the event, citing the passage of the state's new Emergency Manager law and Right to Work legislation. Both of those measures were also passed during the Michigan Legislature's lame duck session.
