(WXYZ) - Detroit City Council President Pro-Tem Gary Brown is taking a new job to help handle the Detroit financial crisis, according to sources.
Brown chaired a committee meeting Monday morning and said from the council table he will not discuss his future plans.
However, sources at City Hall say Brown will begin a newly created job as chief restructuring officer on July 1. Sources say the appointment was made by Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr.
Sources also tell 7 Action News that incoming Police Chief James Craig will restructure the Police Department while Brown will handle the rest of the public safety and all other departments.
Orr has not yet confirmed these details.
Mayor Bing has also refused comment at this time.
