Freeway shutdown after fatal accident
DETROIT (WXYZ) - The southbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway have just opened at Southfield Road after being shut down for several hours due to a fatal accident in Detroit.
The accident took place on the Lodge near Greenfield at around 1:45 pm.
According to police, a 1995 Chevrolet pickup was traveling in the left lane of the freeway when the cargo began to shift. The truck stopped near the median wall in the left lane of the freeway.
Both of the men in the truck got out of the vehicle to deal with the shifting load.
Another vehicle that was traveling in the left lane was unable to stop and hit the pickup and the two people who had gotten out of the truck.
The truck's 21-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital. The 30-year-old passenger of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither man's name has been released.
The driver of the passenger car was also injured in the crash. He was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital for treatement.
