State Representative Fred Durhal announces candidacy for Detroit Mayor

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit's mayoral race is getting a little more crowded.

Monday, State Representative Fred Durhal announced his candidacy for mayor of Detroit.

The 60-year old democrat currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee in Lansing.

Durhal says he wants to be mayor because he grew up in the city.

He believes he can make Detroit a better place to live.

State Representative Lisa Howze declared her candidacy earlier this year. Other contenders include Mike Duggan, Benny Napoleon and Hansen Clarke.

Mayor Dave Bing has not said whether he will run for re-election.
