DETROIT (WXYZ) - The children who attend the Little Scholars Child Development Center on Grand River in Detroit seemed happy today as they played musical chairs.
But, last week when the heat index was near 100 they were sweltering. That's because someone stripped the three air conditioning units on the roof and they stopped working.
School Director Shirley Wright Hailey went out and bought portable floor air conditioners, but it wasn't enough on the hottest days. They had to move the children elsewhere.
When she saw the estimate from the heating and cooling company to replace the units that were stripped of every bit of copper she was devastated. It was close to $40,000.
Shirley, her staff and the parents of the children who go to Little Scholars are hoping someone can help them, so the little ones can keep on playing and learning while staying cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
If you would like to help, call the Little Scholars school at (313) 272-2514.
