DETROIT (WXYZ) - Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Thursday charged three people in the murder of a French street artist last year.
18-year-old Jasin Reno Curtis, 17-year-old Dionte Darryl Travis and 20-year-old Drequone Lamar Rich are each charged with felony murder, armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm.
Police say they found 23-year-old Bilal Berreni dead near the Brewster Projects on July 29, 2013. It was found he died from a gunshot wound to the head.
According to prosecutors, the men robbed and then killed Berrini.
“It sickens me that a young, talented artist who had traveled the world to pursue his passion was murdered here, thus reinforcing the stereotypes for many about our City of Detroit. We will do everything that we possibly can under the law to bring the killers of Mr. Berreni to justice”, Worthy said.
Also, a 14-year-old juvenile was also arrested in connection to the murder. He was only 13 at the time, but they say he participated by aiding and abetting in the armed robbery and homicide of Berreni. He was charged with armed robbery and felony murder. The decision has yet to be made on whether or not they will sentence him as an adult, juvenile or both.
All three will be arraigned in court on Sept. 11. The juvenile will also be arraigned in Juvenile court the same day.
