DETROIT (WXYZ) - Old and damaged tires left all across neighborhoods are a huge eyesore and a safely concern.
So today a "tire-sweep" is being held to get them off the street.
Instead of dumping them in an abandoned home, the tires can be taken to a volunteer group that will be collecting old tires.
It's been a problem that's been going on for years. Not only is it ugly and no one wants to look at it, but it's dangerous to have dozens of tires piling up in vacant homes - especially if there's a fire.
So not only will volunteers be riding around the city and collecting as many dumped tires as they can, you can also drop off you're own tires at a designated drop off site..
The drop off site is at the intersection of Lawndale and Witt. The volunteer s will have a dumpster there and they will be collecting and accepting tires today from 11:30 am until 3:00 pm.
This cleanup starts today and will end on Thursday.
