Detroit police say a man and woman are in custody following a police chase on the city's west side. Two young children were inside the car at the time of the chase.
It happened around 3 p.m. Saturday and the chase ended near Puritan and Inverness, which is east of Livernois, on the city's west side.
We're told they were chasing a shooting suspect they believe shot his girlfriend earlier in the day on the city's east side.
According to police, the suspect, who was in the passenger seat of a black Chevy Impala, pulled up to a white Chevy Impala driven by a woman with her newborn baby inside. The suspect opened fire, shooting the woman before they made a run for it.
Undercover officers saw the suspect and then the chase began.
The woman who was shot was listed in critical condition.
