DETROIT (WXYZ) - A mother and her son came across a horrifying surprise in a Detroit alley Friday afternoon. They discovered a body in a trash can.
It was Jeremiah White who first saw the body when he lifted the lid on a trash can, in search of returnable bottles. He called over his mother, Nadine Nowosad.
"When I flipped it open, I seen feet." said White. "I thought it was a mannequin or something."
The discovery was upsetting, but Jeremiah's mom says they are happy they can bring some peace to the victim's family.
"This is going to be a nightmare in our heads for a long, long time. Glad we found it so the family has closure. Otherwise, he would have ended up at the garbage dump." she said.
The discovery was made around 4:30 p.m., in the alley near Parkhurst and Woodward, just north of McNichols.
The mother and son were walking behind businesses in the area when they made the discovery.
Police have secured the scene with caution tape and the Wayne County Medical Examiner is working to identify the victim, said to be a main who was found clothed, but with his shoes removed and his pants pulled down to his knees.
