Two men charged in murder of 8-year-old Detroit boy Jakari Pearson

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Two Detroit men will be arraigned today in connection with the murder of 8-year-old Jakari Pearson.

Calvin Mosby and Devaunte Starks have been charged with First Degree Murder, two counts of Assault with Intend to Murder, Discharge at a Building Causing Death and Felony Firearms. Mosby is also facing an assitional county of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The two are accused of shooting Pearson as he slept in his bed.

At the time police said a man had walked up tot the back of the home and opened fire with an assault rifle. The bullets went through the walls, hitting the little boy. It happened in the 680 block of East Street just before 1:30 a.m. on July 29. 

Officers said they believed the suspect had been stalking Pearson's mother. In announcing the charges, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy office says the Mosby has dated Pearson mother and threatened her. They say he returned to the home to commit the shooting.

Both men were arraigned on the charges Monday. They were remanded to the Wayne County Jail. They are due back in court on August 13.
